I were forced to buy this book twice, your second time I bought the traditional sized version that is about 6 x 9. This particular version being reviewed the following is just TOO smaller than average you will need to purchase a magnifying glass simply to attempt to browse the script - and after that youll be unable to anyway considering that the ink is just too big thick. The Hans Wehr Arabic-English dictionary is the totally indispensable. I have no idea how you cold make do learning Arabic without one! I studied Arabic for many years, along with more use with this dictionary than out of another reference source BY FAR. If you dont let's face it, I wish I could provide you with a picture of my dictionary now - - its been used a whole lot its in pieces obviously, I need to go out and buy a whole new one!. The most difficult thing which could get frustrating, but such as a puzzle, after you unlock the trick, everything starts clicking into place is youve got to learn the root of your word and locate it in here. Still a newbie student not really qualified to reply to many aspects in this dictionary, I am however pretty pleased with the large, clear, easy-on-the-eyes Arabic font within this full-size edition. I steered away on the smaller formatted and cheaper edition for fear that as a different reader I would not be able for making out the intricate script. Years ago being a student of Khmer, another fairly intricate writing system, I first found myself reading documents with a magnification device ., but once I reached an even more advanced level everything seemed clear enough. I imagine it will take most students some time to adjust to what in the beginning seems to be very strange and tiny scribbles. Most Arabic entries seem fully voweled, so I don't see the demand for English phonetics that another reviewer demanded. I used the Fun with Arabic CD-ROM to acquire past the phonetics. Im pleased at what I got for my money. I also followed another reviewers suggestion and ordered the Al Mawrid dictionary at the same time. If you are going to put inside the huge length of time required to practice a foreign language, youd best invest early inside game.

To the one that left one star: youre an idiot. Why are you by using a dictionary when you cant even read both languages?
This dictionary can be quite useful for English speakers who will be serious students of Arabic. It makes distinctions between words which might be homonyms in English which could be a major point of confusion in translation during ones early studies as an example, does one mean rail such as to complain or the choo-choo rides on?.

Dont even work with Al-Mawrid. This may be the best dictionary in existence, especially should you liked the Concise version, also published by Oxford. The typography you can see and precise, this also dictionary has yet to help me wrong in meaning or translation. Though Hans Wehr is more great for Arabic-English translations, this has to be the gold standard inside other direction.

There isn't much choice of English - Arabic dictionaries. This one is a great one, and unlike many the Arabic text is extremely clear and legible. However, it will tend to omit the plurals in Arabic. it can do not show the Arabic plural from the English word door. Nor does it provide Arabic root on the word. Given the high price with this dictionary, these shortcomings are irritating. It would be good should the publisher offers rather more value for money from the next edition.

I manipulate the French and Italian versions of the dictionary for many years and this also Arabic version are at least as great for students and teachers whorrrre learning Arabic inside an Anglophone environment. Almost love this book. My second language is Arabic in order that it was suitable for me. Excellent quality. Excellent info. Huge choice of topics. Only shocker: discusses numbers along with their not of their arabic written it VERY weird because the whole book was English and Arabic text, when it came on the numbers, we were holding only coded in English. Odd.

This book is just fantastic for learners of Arabic. The only thing I dont like is that it has transliterations along while using Arabic text, and you actually have to talk them as the short vowels arent written in the Arabic text. Nonetheless, I have always loved the visual dictionaries which one is no exception.

Great book, the wonderful pictures are generally clear so they really make learning easier and much more fun.
I dont think this book really can be used as being a dictionary though. Ive been using it to understand new words, and its suitable for that.
However, you'll find far too few verbs presented, that makes the book only partially useful. I would have preferred to find out a lot more verbs as an alternative to, say, what they are called of 40 different stones! There are also various everyday topics missing, for example politics.
Would are actually extremely helpful to add the plural forms too.

Oh dear! The print can be so small that I need to take a magnifyer together with my reading glasses! A great pity as it is really a brilliant dictionary with beautiful illustrations cover up everything. I would gladly have paid more for it within a larger sized copy. Not a dictionary you could use instantly inside a necessary my Arabic tutors shared my personal and expressed same thus to their students; neither wore glasses, as I do.
