Ive been waiting for farmville to release since I first heard news of the usb ports last year and today that Im playing it, it didnt disappoint. Having not played the first until after playing through Madness Returns, I wasnt sure what to expect if this came for the combat, puzzles, and platforming. To my bewilderment, I actually found myself experiencing and enjoying the puzzles and platforming in the game way more than its sequel however the combat was vastly improved in Madness Returns. In the first Alice game, you discover asked to solve a lot of avenues of puzzles, from trippy illusions which may have you walking through endless doors and rooms, on the more common puzzle type in places you have to drag levers in a very specific order. The variety inside the puzzles is fantastic, and will be a welcome addition to its sequel.
The platforming is additionally pretty fun and surprisingly void of frustration. I welcomed the other variety, but there have been a few control points that, sometimes, made the feeling a little frustrating. Every so often, Alice would slide off a platform, plunging me to my death or small lack of health, or I would get stuck on geometry forcing me to reload my last save thankfully, there are a good amount of checkpoints. There were even a number of times when Alice refused to tug herself up a ledge. By the way, the ability to grab ledges also wouldve been a welcome addition to Madness Returns. For the most part, though, the platforming elements felt solid.
The combat could be the only gameplay issue that may have used more work. As opposed to its more agile sibling in Madness Returns, the Vorpal Blade is really a very slow weapon. Alice swings much too slowly, almost as if your air in Wonderland is just as dense as molasses. My only saving grace in many on the fights was that enemies usually dont take a lot damage before theyre vanquished.
Unlike its follow-up, theres a many more variety in Alices arsenal of weapons. In Madness Returns, you will find four available, but here youll have ten. Theres also the additional bonus that many with the weapons possess a secondary ability. These cover anything from turning an in depth combat weapon in to a ranged one by throwing it or firing projectiles from using it to far cooler abilities like creating walls of ice or summoning an effective demon. The larger arsenal will give you more options during battle, plus the secondary abilities only multiply that.
