Films shot inside Anamorphic process are instantly recognizable. They employ a quality and resonance that other lenses can t capture. Anamorphic films often capture a practically 3D quality onto film s 2D medium. This workflow continues to be optimized for cameras that capture 16:9 footage and then for lenses between 28mm to 35mm Full frame equivalent.
The Anamorphic lens that I chose as being the holy grail to emulate may be the Panavision Primo 40mm Anamorphic. It was the ONLY lens applied to Roman Polanski s Chinatown and used 95% with the time on Wes Anderson s films Rushmore and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
The VashiMorphic40After Effects project function is so that every filmmaker, on any budget, can capture the aesthetics and visual style from the Anamorphic lens. These two focal lengths split the visible difference between the two different FOVs 40mm/20mm that this 40mm Panavision lens provides plus the settings around my project use matched curvature to help enhance the look. I used the Bezier Warp effect and adjusted the flat image until it matched the curved lines in the 40mm Panavision Anamorphic. I massaged the 12 control points from the Bezier Warp until I duplicated the complete curvature.
I tried optics compensation, lens distortion and various other methods nonetheless they all need resizing from the footage to adjust to the full 1920 1080 frame. I needed an even better solution so I achieved it by hand with all the Bezier Warp and we all could secure the sharpness on the raw footage. This first effect inside the project could be the 40mm Primo Curve. This matched curvature adds the subtle 3D quality that is certainly prevalent inside Anamorphic process. Straight lines are bowed towards the top and bottom from the frame. This causes a perceived bulge from the middle with the frame almost like that section with the image is better the viewer. I made a mask that will fit the areas affected after researching films and photos of the phenomenon. I used the Fast Blur effect making sure that rendering could be kept low. My default setting of 3 pixels is so visible, but subtle. The overall goal is always to approximate and capture the sensation from the Anamorphic traits something very difficult with spherical lenses. For shooting stylistic or experimental footage it might really include that something special.
The VashiMorphic40project also contains a 2.35 Anamorphic matte to copy the projected aspect ratio with the 40mm Primo lens. When you shoot footage due to this project you need to frame and shoot while using 2.35 ratio in your mind. I m undecided if I much like the curve look it reminds me of the fisheye look.

i also have a very Tokina 11-16 f.2.8, Sigma 50mm f.1.4, Rokinon 85mm T.1.5 and Canon 70-200mm f.2.8. just gotta obtain that Sigma 18-35mm f.1.8 so i could use your plugin properly, yes we have an excuse to obtain it now:.

Weird. 1500 downloads no issues yet. You re the 1st! Try dragging your footage within the Footage layer then delete the pre-existing Footage layer?
Turn off of the black and white lined image that shows the curves too.
