I really wouldnt have needed another Photoshop book if I hadnt recently gotten the extended version. Having seen this book in a bookstore, I knew who's had an outstanding tutorial over a feature that only applies for the extended version stacking multiple shots to automatically remove variable elements, for instance tourists walking in front of an fountain-the fountain remains, the tourists disappear. This wasnt in a of my other books, I needed to the and couldnt locate it Id seen it in. That-and maybe even more info on extended-was all I was expecting from the jawhorse.
How wrong I was! This book is really a treasure trove for people who just love both versions. In addition towards the information I needed,
I got lots of other valuable information I either didnt know previously or had forgotten explained inside a refreshingly uncomplicated way;
I got old information presented inside a better and clearer solution to understand what is occurring under the hood;
I gained additional understanding about why some tools be more effective in different situations, in addition to color spaces, and pre-press;
I gained a greater understanding of tools/functions I knew about but had ignored including nearest neighbor interpolation;
in short, it turned out like seeing Photoshop from a whole new and smarter perspective.
I love the best way the authors present the content. It will not be only in the clear and conversational manner without forced humor, however it is illustrated by a great deal of screen shots detailing everything. The tone and level is casual, get rid of technical than necessary, respects your time and effort and intelligence, which enable it to make probably the most dreary and monotonous task seem entertaining and interesting. It is really a phantastic book - it provides insight into not just how to have the pictures done which appear for the billboards, but in addition into the creative process along with the caveats when dealing using the ad agency. Just love the material.
Unfortunately, I ordered the Kindle edition. And that means - no DVD with sample pictures, you can not really follow the novel. Apparently, in addition, you cannot download the fabric which I would've expected. And there were no warning about this when I bought the Kindle book. So basically, to learn using the respective sample material, I have to pick the paper book too.:-
I am fairly disappointed a that I pay almost a similar price, but an incredibly significant piece is missing b that there's no way involving a combined product containing both Kindle and also the print edition c that if 20 min of searching, I continue to have not found by any means of contacting Amazon to find out how a real situation must be handled.

Please bear in mind that this book addresses ADVANCED PS techniques and seems primarily relevant for professionals and advanced hobbyists. To this point, the very last chapter of the publication addresses business the business of professional photography like copyright, marketing, sales, and pricing. Other reviewers have described this book because the missing PS CS5 manual etc. etc. This is certainly not the case and inexperienced PS users work best served by purchasing one with the many excellent basic PS texts that can be found. This book assumes basic to intermediate understanding of photoshop and its particular functions. It is further not meant to be encyclopedic. Rather the authors have chosen specific PS strategies to highlight from the various chapters.
Beginning users and in many cases many intermediate users may find the information within this book overly specialized and quite often lacking at length. For example, the ebook assumes information about PS commands, icons, keyboard shortcuts etc., and significant facility with layering along with techniques. As such, many from the techniques described lack complete, detailed step-by-step methods to problems. Its strengths will be in its detailed coverage of advanced photoshop raw techniques, particularly editing techniques and PSs camera raw functions and workflow. It also covers aspects not covered in numerous other PS books like camera and lens - PS interface issues. It does an excellent job in covering the business of fashion and portrait photography and advertising, along with landscape photography, including HDR techniques. The illustrations are great.
Having declared that, this is a fantastic book written well in the engaging style by two obvious PS master photographers. Aspiring intermediate to advanced PS users will discover a banking center of advanced PS pearls with this excellent book.

The tone and level is casual, you can forget technical than necessary, respects your time and energy and intelligence, which enable it to make probably the most dreary and monotonous task seem entertaining and interesting.
I am a rather competent Photoshop user for factors like photography particularly candid portraits and two-dimensional artwork. Ive been using Photoshop daily since version 5.5. I know enough to ready prints for art books and catalogs and enough to chronicle family events with a quasi-professional level. I havent stumbled upon a challenge I couldnt improvise my way outside of in years, so I thought I knew everything I would ever need. Maybe so, but that doesnt imply that I was doing everything the appropriate way or that there werent easier, better plus more efficient ways to work. For example: I was still making masks as I could have several versions ago and they also worked fine. I knew there was a brand new masks panel, but what I didnt realize is when much more functionality and accuracy there exists in making masks the newest way. And this is only one example. Over the years, I had gotten right into a rut, I wasnt taking full good thing about improvements to this program, with all the old tools to full advantage, or thinking creatively-I just kept rediscovering the reassurance of whatever had worked within the past and simply incorporating the obvious additions into my work flow. Big mistake.
This book not just teaches a vintage dog new tricks, but it really would teach a new or intermediate user to perform things the smarter way right from the start, to create an efficient work flow, and fully understand the various options Photoshop provides you with and use them intelligently. I wish Id been there a long time ago, but Im delighted to own found it now. It has brought back the thrill and wonder I felt back when I first discovered Photoshop.
PS: the CD contains actions and also other automation options I havent yet had any time to explore, but I want to treat myself to your tour following holidays!

You don't have to be a Photoshop expert to obtain plenty away from Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers - The Ultimate Workshop by Martin Evening and Jeff Schewe but I wouldnt depend upon this book alone for the fundamentals.
The authors themselves generate a key point the reason is not essential to perfect every nook and cranny with the software. What is essential is finding and learning well those features that best enable you to accomplish what you need to do as effectively as is possible.
If youre fresh to software or software as involved as Photoshop I think youll quickly be lost and not using a basics guide youre confident with. The Photoshop help files are extensive however the hyperlinked format, speaking for myself, could be hyper-frustrating.
I had use of Martin Evenings companion volume, Adobe Photoshop for Photographers, which can be massive 700 pages possesses far a lot more than whats required to the workshop. I managed pretty much after reading the chapters on Photoshop Fundamentals, Camera Raw Processing, and Image Editing Basics still, which was a couple of hundred pages in whole.
While occasional reference is made inside the workshop book to Evenings text, I dont think anyone whos gotten their basic knowledge elsewhere will feel disadvantaged.
Another reason to take into account an alternative basics book will be the text inside the workshop book is usually a bit dense and wordy. The authors ever have plenty to share plus the writing is rather good but for the book marketed being a hands-on workshop it may feel as though youre doing a great deal of reading involving the hands-on.
The tutorials inside the workshop book are such as look over my shoulder then check it out yourself with all the images provided within the DVD, as opposed to the more literal Step 1: Display the X menu and select Y together with the mouse, kind youll see inside PS magazines and also other books.
The authors dont assume every reader can be a professional like themselves, but they also address you being a serious adult and invite you within their world inside a way that respects your intelligence and rewards your enthusiasm to uncover the real stuff the professionals use to acquire those amazing shots most of us admire.
What I found most refreshing during the entire book may be the authors perspective that digital post-production in Photoshop is only one variable component from the contemporary photographers workflow - sometimes playing a dominant role - maybe a minimal or possibly a non-existent one - but never losing sight with the primary goal which is to satisfy each clients needs in the efficient, high-quality way. Its a perspective both pro and amateur can connect with - even when your clients dont extend beyond the family members.
The first tutorial on Raw Camera processing is really a case in point. The authors explain that 90% products needs for being done to most images could be done below in Raw Camera parameter mode, and it could possibly often be done easier and efficiently than by with all the pixel-based tools from the main Photoshop application. Im not sure how Adobe feels this, and you have to appreciate the honesty.
In spite from the authors approach of mastering a focused subset of features, theres a tremendous amount covered within these tutorials. Generally speaking, Evening tends towards beauty subjects while Schewe favors outdoors, still lifes, and sophisticated composites for advertising. Fortunately it's not necessary to work throughout the chapters sequentially so readers can zero-in independently interests.
I found my way into it through Chapter 5 that has a number of concise retouching tutorials, no greater than few pages each. This was a goldmine for somebody like me relatively to retouching, both fun to see and practical. One section titled The Photoshop Diet demonstrates tips on how to magically reduce weight your subjects figure within limits naturally. Others describe strategies to remove stray hairs, color roots, and enhance existing hair color. My favorites show tips on how to remove unwanted fixed obstructions marring an otherwise great shot, eliminate tourists from popular outdoor subjects, as well as remove leaves and petals from the shot of the lawn!
For me that chapter along with the following one on portrait retouching were by far the most relevant. But seeing how complex composites just like the classic liquid droplets with a surface are produced in other tutorials using layering and filtering techniques really piqued my curiosity to use my hand advertising.
I think what sets it apart from other Photoshop books Ive browsed may be the professional credibility around the pages, a sense on this-is-what-works-in-the-real-world which enables studying these chapters very exciting. Once youve gotten your bearings using the software this is really a more than worthwhile place for being that will elevate your talent to the next step and change the way in which you view digital images, professional or otherwise not, forever.

Does the earth really need an additional how-to book about the digital image editing for Adobe Photoshop still the 800-pound gorilla within this immensely competitive field? The answer is not really, unless it brings something quite special to your discussion. Fortunately, within this case theres over enough making it highly worthwhile, at least for any somewhat narrow audience.
Printed technical books are increasingly challenged from the monumental changes going on while using distribution and utilization of information. But generally we continue to have to read to absorb your data, no matter what the delivery system could be, and then for some complex topics with advanced Photoshop a fantastic example, creating a real textbook to examine and then refer back to on the regular basis is usually a very wise decision.
First, in regards to the authors. While there are lots of Photoshop experts with great ability as a copywriter, not every person is as within the business or as directly linked to improving the imaging industrys processes and methods as Martin Evening and Jeff Schewe. Their credentials are simply on the highest order, and if you are serious about digital imaging youll be aware of what they should say. That doesnt mean there arent a number of ways to have to the final product to capture, create, produce, and deliver excellent digital images, but learning specialized skills readily available pros cant help but advance your cause in this particular intensely competitive field.
What does The Ultimate Workshop cover? Think of it like a masters course on using combinations of intricate Photoshop tools to attain a particular objective, including compositing, mending blending, and HDR to but a few. All start together with the assumption you as good as know the fundamental program. This is definitely not really a beginners book, though certainly a person with a serious fascination with digital imaging can glean lots of important and valuable material as a result. But people that will benefit most will have a great mastery of Photoshop fundamentals in order for being able to appreciate the explanations of underlying conceptual and technical foundations of the many processes together with the elaborate interactions of assorted tools.
And it isn't just about using this course. Since imaging starts a long time before and ends well following Photoshop program itself, additional important sections cover preparation ahead of capture, automating image editing and optimization methods for efficiency, making the best prints, and dealing with all the business of photography. Theres additionally a DVD containing many in the printed images and a amount of PDFs and QuickTime movies containing more information on selected subjects. All told, its a insightful valuable information.
Recommendation: Highly recommended for everyone who regularly uses Photoshop to complete advanced, complex imaging tasks. Youll ought to really concentrate to absorb it all-its like having the rest from the story. This is definitely upper-level material. Those just learning Photoshop could be much better served with any quantity of more fundamental how-to books or video clips, but once the essential foundation is established this workshop will assist you to move to your next level in maximizing the capability in this powerful program.

I have always considered Martin Evenings Adobe Photoshop for Photographers number of books to be the top and most comprehensive book available. This book expands further with additional detailed types of professional workflow, retouching and advanced techniques.
There is really a wealth of advice in the very first chapter from the seasoned professional on the way to prepare before shooting. It is like this: once you discover an address, you may drive with it; but when you dont, you may drive round and round wasting precious gasoline.
I can't help but recommend this book to all or any who want to be in shape and bear in mind the Photoshop techniques, which are certainly not being employed in their everyday Photography.

I have used Photoshop more than a decade and during that period I manipulate various training resources such as the books by Scott Kelby and also the videos on I think that this Kelby books are ideal for first time users of Photoshop simply because give a fantastic background but omit a great deal of advanced features and methods. The training on Lynda is diversified and outstanding with numerous videos from which to choose, however, some people prefer to obtain the learning written form.
I approached the Ultimate Workshop by Evening and Schewe wondering simply how much new information and advice this additional would offer. It ended up, quite a bit. Where the Ultimate Workshop truly shines is within the presentation of advanced techniques not covered in almost any other training resource that I manipulate. The authors effectively convey assistance with image manipulation, tricks and process workflow depending on their vast experience.
The Ultimate Workshop is not really a beginners book for Photoshop. A certain a higher level experience about the part from the reader is assumed. Whereas Kelby walks people through the steps to try and do certain tasks and in some cases suggests settings, the authors from the Ultimate Workshop assume which the reader already carries a knowledge layout, design of Photoshop and the way to use filters and layers, one example is since the location these tools aren't included within the instructions. Therefore, the Ultimate Workshop is ideally fitted to people who will be already in an intermediate or higher level with Photoshop.
The authors from the Ultimate Workshop approach Photoshop with all the philosophy that amazing photo just isn't born in Photoshop. There can be a strong emphasis in the novel on obtaining the photograph you'll need before you get it to Photoshop. For example, an illustration is shown for night photography in which the scene is chosen prior to sun sets. The authors show through other examples that even digitally manipulated images which are manufactured in Photoshop ought to be thought out prior to elements are photographs so how the elements which might be used can establish the desired final result.
The authors do a really good job at presenting the picture processing techniques for the reader. The image processing steps are presented both in text and images. The authors also included side blurbs to go into detail terms or steps they thought needed additional attention. The tone of the writing is casual along with the reader is treated intelligently. What I really liked was the a feeling of honesty how the authors conveyed. For example, when discussing content aware fills, the authors warn the automated approach wont work each time, despite the training books say. The authors explain that, including themselves use examples that work and also this can lead to false expectations when it wasnt on their behalf revealing this on the reader.
The authors go more just image processing to also incorporate a chapter on creating actions in Photoshop. Given that this rest of the publication assumes a a higher level experience with actions, it truly is surprising that this authors treat the playback quality of actions as if these are presenting it to beginners. However, in that way, the authors convey some great advice which could be used by both beginners and much more advanced Photoshop users.
Another chapter is focused on choosing the correct printer to utilize with Photoshop and how to receive the most beyond your prints. People who have to provide CMYK images to publishers will discover the advice given with the authors being particularly useful.
What I was surprised and disappointed through the abrupt end of a final chapter of the publication about archiving and file formats. The authors may have added an ending to your whole book to stress or summarize main points or maybe a summary of their workflow. While the ending of the novel certainly will not distract from the insightful information in it, I do think who's was a chance missed with the authors.
An additional point to get made is the fact although there are image processing steps shown in it which are particular for the Photoshop CS5 extended version, many in the techniques shown in the publication can be applied in earlier versions of Photoshop at the same time.
The DVD which comes with the ebook includes sample images, additional chapters, QuickTime videos and in many cases layer styles that one could add to your personal library. The DVD is really a great resource to look beyond just reading and actually try exactly the same steps around the sample image.
In summary, a fantastic resource for intermediate or beyond users of Photoshop. The experience from the authors that's conveyed in the ebook, the effectiveness of the words and images to clearly show the look processing steps plus the resources given for the DVD make this an incredibly worthwhile book for anybody who uses Photoshop.
Since it description on Amazon isn't going to include a chapter summary, the chapters of it are:
Points to take into consideration to improve the whole picture quality of one's photographs including while using mirror-up mode, lens corrections and capture sharpening.
7. Masking and compositing
10. Cooking with Photoshop
Content aware scaling, bw conversion, solarization along with other darkroom effects including adding borders.
13. Minding your individual business
Adding value for a photographs, archiving and a few business advice
In addition, the accompanying DVD includes seven chapters not found in the publication:

This book is pretty a value. While loosely intended to be a companion book to Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers, it is effective to be a standalone. Martin Evening and Jeff Schewe have assembled a nearly seamless group of tutorials which cover several different sorts of photo editing situations. While the various readers may not have an involvement in every single area the landscape photographer may well not care much about fashion retouching, there is certainly useful information atlanta divorce attorneys segment.
Photoshop is really a huge program and may be quite daunting to your first-timer. Ive been using it for just a few years, nonetheless its still surprising just how much Ive missed. Its understandable: if youre about the hunt for the particular filter, youre planning to pass right over a volume of unfamiliar menu entries. Many of those entries are doorways to entirely new concepts. The writing we have found very clear, with each section written primarily with a single author. The examples are very well-chosen plus the printed graphics are likely to be good, if occasionally a tad small. A huge level of ground is protected. Theres even read more about the Camera Raw importer useful money on those expensive de-noising plugins and Bridge. Theres a good section on conversion to black-and-white, to tips on removing stray hairs, creating 3D panoramas, HDR, star trails, and creating intentionally unrealistic images. The authors also address Actions, the powerful scripting capabilities of Photoshop, and also copyright protection and several other business-related questions. There is also description of features from the extended version of this software-enough for making me wish I been there. This includes powerful 3D functions and image-stacking.
This is not much of a complete list. Theres plenty more. I should point out how the writing betrays no bias toward PC or Mac. In cases where keystrokes might differ, both platforms are covered equally.
I might have been completely satisfied if this type of was as much as it went. Its a fantastic book, stuffed with information. But this isn't all. There is surely an included DVD. This contains most from the images in it-freely editable-that this reader may use to solidify learning. There are also many movies, working through it chapters step-by-step. I liked these lots. The viewer could see in real time what exactly differences each parameter may make.
One time through wont be enough for me personally. This volume will remain close by and may serve to be a valuable reference. It will make me an improved photographer, partially because Ill be an even better editor, and also because Ill be capable to plan better within a shoot. Not my way through life is really a bargain. But it is.

I have Martin Evenings Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers, as well as its incredibly detailed - almost encyclopedic - in the coverage on the essential tools and operations in Photoshop. This one covers some with the same material, but because title suggests its more workshop than reference. The authors lead you through a variety of fairly sophisticated workflows for solving specific problems or creating specific results. This is not just a beginners help guide Photoshop, but a lot more like a master class for photographers who would like to understand how Photoshop works and the best way to make it work for you personally. Each tutorial is clearly illustrated, and explains their how plus the why of each one major step. They dont, however, go over the fundamentals - they presuppose a reader who understands the interface, whos got a rather decent volume of competence utilizing the various tools to produce selections, assist layers and masking, apply effects and adjustment layers. The ideal audience due to this one may be the experienced photographer, whos used Photoshop to reinforce images but really wants to take it for the next level and create professional quality seamless work. One thing that readers of Evenings other works would know is the fact that he loves the Camera Raw highlights of Photoshop CS5, and so they outline here how you can use it efficiently. I found the discussion of camera optics fascinating - and today I understand why more megapixels just isn't necessarily better, as well as why digital sharpening is actually always essential regardless of how good the style. Theres an incredibly cool chapter on taking advantage with the automation tools in Photoshop, something Id never done. Theres additionally a chapter that touches around the business end of photography - the best way to make money with Photoshop, something which both from the authors find out about. Its a really worthwhile guide, well written and clear, cover up a wide range of essential approaches for photographic enhancement.

Jeff Schewe is often a world renowned Photoshop expert, professional commercial photographer, and digital imaging artist. Jeff is really a member in the NAPP Photoshop Hall of Fame. An highest rated advertising photographer by trade, he could be known being a digital pioneer and contains been a lasting alpha/beta tester for Photoshop, Camera Raw and Lightroom.
I bought this book reading and utilizing the previous CS3 and CS4 versions expecting it to become just an updated or padded out copy as it had been from the CS3 to CS4 books. To some degree that is true as the ebook covers subjects just as if you havent read Martins workshop books before. This is in which the similarity ends. There is a whole lot new material in it to use alongside the accompanying CS5 for Photographers book and the many new features in CS5 itself that I can honestly say its definitely worth the money as well as a compelling read.
Martins books are written in the easy to know style and so are very to your point with minimal frivolity ensuring you find the most from your immense level of information contained within.
If you havent read Martin Evenings books before, never be tempted to get this alone as it turned out designed to become read after as well as in conjunction with Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers: A professional image editors guide on the creative utilization of Photoshop to the Macintosh and PC

The Ultimate Workshop may be the book many of us have needed for a real long time. It is concise and detailed so they cover almost every part of photographic retouching problems one might encounter. The chapter on RAW file processing beats anything I have ever read around the subject and explains it in easily comprensible language that everyone will manage to benefit by. The rest of the novel is just filled with useful and to follow tuition on other facets of bringing professional standards for your shots.
I teach digital areas of both graphic design and fashion promotion and this is going to be only one of two technical photographic books I will emphasise around the recommended reading list for my students. The other is Photoshop for Photographers Martin Evening - unsurprisingly!
Both of those books are fantastic value but this latest one can be a gem no serious photographic or design professional needs to be without it!
Congratulations to Martin Evening and Jeff Schewe for such magnificent work, guys!

Theres a huge amount of Photoshop books targeted at either total beginners or basic-intermediate. This is one with the very rare works that aims squarely as a minimum catered for users who may have a solid and well practiced familiarity with Photoshop and digital imaging, but desire a thorough examination of substantially upgraded features for instance camera raw, content aware fill, or who would like to supplement their toolkit with additional leading edge techniques. The explanations with the methods and techniques demonstrated are clearly and concisely written and well illustrated, with lots of useful facts about what underlies new controls and when they can be best applied. Most importantly for me personally, the novel contains perhaps by far the most useful guide to your latest iteration of Camera RAW I have encounter, and presents a compelling argument why it ought to be at the heart of all users workflows.
It is not the sunday paper for beginners or very casual users, who'll simply not develop the background knowledge required in either photoshop or digital imaging to obtain the best from it and will almost definitely find it excessive like work, as some from the other reviews indicate. Those for whom Photoshop forms a significant a part of working life will discover this an important companion, with sufficient here to lift standards, add polish to images and in some cases suggest situations when it is way better to step back, deposit the Wacom and pursue effects in-camera. That many of those that contributed on the book are intimately linked to Photoshops development speaks volumes regarding how closely it reflects the programs underpinnings.

This is a great book for those that want to proceed from basic principles. I wouldnt recommend it as being an introduction to photoshop. As it examines more complex matters. Well worth having with your library.

It is rather clear the author knows his stuff but this isn't passed on especially well within this book. If you are any a lot less than an accomplished PS user then I would go to the authors more comprehensive offering for being found in Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers: A professional image editors guide towards the creative utilization of Photoshop for that Macintosh and PC which is a superb offering.
I am not much of a raw beginner in PS and also have attended a volume of courses but I found this challenging - the videos can be extremely disappointing- this author whizzes through these with bare descriptions as to what he or she is doing or why.
Thank you on your feedback.

On the entire I felt this book was great. I liked the best way it was written that was easy that you follow and clear. However some in the more complex, and for that reason more interesting tutorials, wasn't accompanied by any supporting material with which to check out and learn. I emailed Martin Evening to inquire about why. He said it was regarding copyright issues. Im none the wiser. If you are planning to further your Photoshop skills, look no beyond this volume.
Thank you for the feedback.
