I have Adobe 8 Pro v8.3 running on Win 7 64bit. It does everything I need because the default program setting files. Occasionally, I encounter important websites that include viewing and downloading of pdf documents, but insist that I lack Adobe Reader and insist that I download the most up-to-date version on the free Adobe Reader. I resent programmers who write code that appears for Reader instead from the default PDF application. I know from experience that doing that introduced incompatibilities as Pro 8 and Reader X and in some cases earlier versions will not be recommended by Adobe being on a similar system. One outcome is that uninstalling anybody can render the opposite inoperable simply because they will share some files.
Can anyone let me know if I can and the way to work around this? I also have PDF Converter 6 Pro bought in potential to deal with Adobes pricing however it does not get seen either.

Maybe work around it and install another reader, not from Adobe. Several have already been suggested here about the Lounge: Nitro PDF 2, Foxit Reader, PDF XChange-Viewer and a few others.

The problem could be the website insisting on Adobe Reader no other. If it were an Adobe issue alone, I would think my Nuance PDF Converter 6, which opens or views all pdf files if set because default, is acceptable as a reader.

Probably that one does not have any browser add-on or plugin, hence the browser will not use it.

It took me awhile to at least one update Acrobat 8 to 8.3 which works fine with Win 7; 2 set it like a default and 3 get pdfs to preview properly on just about all websites and within Win 7 and Outlook 2010. The latter took a registry change.
My current issue not universal across all websites. Most ok, i'll view pdfs without issues. It occurs as long as I join to certain sites which have pdf files I need. When I visit each pdf icon to view/print or download, I get the content insisting on installing the newest Acrobat Reader gain access to them. It will not be a plug-in issue - I think it is usually a programming issue that does not accept any pdf application aside from the free Reader. If there is no Reader then there's no access.

I use Nitro PDF Reader and don't found a web site where it didnt work. I have long stopped using adobe reader, so I dont think I can help any more. Sorry.

Sorry for having to regenerate this old post, but I just came upon this identical problem that you are describing.
This problem only recently started happening with a couple of new sites that I should print pdfs and would want to know should you found a fix before I make an effort to invent one myself.
For anyone who is interested, this matter seems to become a browser problem. The latest version of Firefox with more up to date flash plugin still crashes. However, Chrome doesn't have any problem displaying the pdf. So as opposed to trying to un-install or try different pdf software, just install Chrome and youre good to go.
After a lot of using Firefox, I hate to begin to learn a new browser. But immediately after days, its actually quite intuitive.

have the most up-to-date Chrome and I can not allow it to become work to get a download of Whatsinstartup it insists it wants Adobe then again it wont see clearly. It gives me one message that whatsinstartup was downloaded from a communication. How do I force Chrome you just read this application. It can be seen in Explorer downloads with adobe yet not with Chrome.

Acroread 8.1.2 cannot print multiple copies
There s a bug in Adobe Reader 8.1.2 reported here wherein printing to multiple copies to your printer doesn t work.
This problem is present on Solaris Reader and is particularly file specific. On seeking to enable 3D on some 3D files on Solaris the Reader returns advice saying 3D Parsing Error and also the 3D image is shown blank.

What I d like to see within the next release I wouldn t mind whether or not this happens sooner ; is proper Linux clipboard experience. I don t determine it matters that I m using KDE on Debian unstable, in order to everybody: in the event you re using something besides KDE and don t have got problems with clipboard actions in Adobe Reader, please allow me to know.
The clipboard knowledge about Adobe Reader using KDE is frustrating sometimes works, sometimes not. But when I say it often works, it simply means it will have times, however the next time you might try to put it to use without restarting Adobe Reader it won t work. So it could be more correct saying so it doesn t provide the proper experience.
The worst thing is the fact that is seems at least for me unpredictable. It usually works the initial time I utilize it after starting Adobe Reader, although not always. If it works the 1st time, the 2nd time it usually doesn t. I have to pay off the clipboard content and after that also, only it often works for once more.
The mess is even bigger when I try right button copy routine inside Adobe Reader for instance, sometimes, after a large amount of copying and clearing the clipboard content I somehow get content from the clipboard that I have copied several copies before.
The clipboard experience is really a must. A nice touch could well be if Adobe are able to use KDE s default cursor. Again, I don t determine this is merely related to KDE, but inside Adobe Reader I have this ugly big white cursor, and everywhere else and not KDE applications uses my default slick black cursor. Actually, I see my default cursor when I open the Open file dialog inside Adobe Reader.

The initial thing that happens when I boot up my new Vista PC is the fact that I be handed a message Acrotray has eradicated. I was hoping the upgrade from 8.1.1 to 8.1.2 would fix this, nonetheless it has not.
I recently upgraded to Reader 8 free version with Windows XP. Since I upgraded to Acrobat Reader 8.1.2 I have not had the opportunity to open file nor can I open Acrobat reader. I have uninstalled and tried earlier versions now have the most recent version installed, but I still can t open file. When I try, tough disk is busy for any few seconds then it is like I never experimented with open the file.
We use Adobe Interactive form with the SAP ECC 6.0. However, we simply cannot bring this type up with the most recent 8.1.2 update. Can you tell us what could possibly be wrong?

Large File Support is missing; when opening PDFs 2GiB, AR simply barfs how the file is just too big large. I know that AR is often a 32 bit app; but LFS doesn t need proper 64bit, only 64bit for offsets and several adaptions fseek/fseeko etc. which might be known for more then this decade.

Acroread 8.1.2 cannot print multiple copies
There s a bug in Adobe Reader 8.1.2 reported here wherein printing to multiple copies to your printer doesn t work.
This concern is present on Solaris Reader which is file specific. On looking to enable 3D on some 3D files on Solaris the Reader returns a stern reminder saying 3D Parsing Error and also the 3D image is shown blank.
Acroread 8.x doesn t properly support Unix Style Copy/Paste
This issue may be reported by multiple users at about the User-to-user forums. The Primary selection clipboard text is just not updated on second selection plus the paste returns the 1st item that's selected. This is often a known bug in Adobe Reader 8.x and is going to be fixed inside the next release.
This issue is reported by users here. The dilemma is reproducible on opensuse 10.3, Ubuntu 6.10 and RHEL5. The hang/lock-up happens on second or third iteration of opening the Edit - Preferences - Reviewing tab.

What I d like to see from the next release I wouldn t mind when it happens sooner ; is proper Linux clipboard experience. I don t determine it matters that I m using KDE on Debian unstable, to everybody: in the event you re using something besides KDE and don t have got problems with clipboard actions in Adobe Reader, please allow me to know.
The clipboard exposure to Adobe Reader using KDE is frustrating sometimes works, sometimes not. But when I say it often works, it simply means who's will just work at times, however the next time you are trying to put it to use without restarting Adobe Reader it won t work. So it will be more correct saying so it doesn t supply the proper experience.
The worst thing is always that is seems at least for me unpredictable. It usually works the 1st time I put it to use after starting Adobe Reader, yet not always. If it works the very first time, the other time it usually doesn t. I have to remove the clipboard content then also, only it sometimes works for again.
The mess is even bigger when I try right button copy routine inside Adobe Reader by way of example, sometimes, after a large amount of copying and clearing the clipboard content I somehow get content within the clipboard that I have copied several copies before.
The clipboard experience can be a must. A nice touch could well be if Adobe can use KDE s default cursor. Again, I don t determine if this is just related to KDE, but inside Adobe Reader I have this ugly big white cursor, and everywhere else rather than just KDE applications uses my default slick black cursor. Actually, I see my default cursor when I open the Open file dialog inside Adobe Reader.

The initial thing that happens when I boot up my new Vista PC is always that I be given a message Acrotray has eliminate. I was hoping the upgrade from 8.1.1 to 8.1.2 would fix this, nonetheless it has not.

Now when an internet site tries to reach it, I get a 2-3 minute pause then a mistake message such as cannot find patch, be sure it exists.
