Its been four years since Charlie Chan films were knocked off the Fox Movie channel because of the meddling with the special interest groups. Well, the wait has payed off as these films are coming over to dvd. This first collection won't consist of four great films: Charlie Chan In London 1934, Charlie Chan In Paris 1935, Charlie Chan In Egypt1935 and Charlie Chan in Shanghai 1935. The Charlie Chan series was one on the most successful in Hollywood background and remains extremely popular today.
Several in years past, Fox spent over 2 million restoring all their Chan and Mr. Moto films. Based for the limited TV airings they received, these films look and sound the top they have in years. Given Foxs stellar good reputation for high quality transfers and recent conversion to getting original poster art for covers, these DVDs is a wonderful addition to your classic film library.
Although all of the Fox Chans took advantage of strong writing and high production values, these early films were clearly A level productions with elaborate sets and strong supporting casts including Ray Milland plus in an early role Rita Hayworth.
Kudos to Fox to recognizing the high demand because of these films. Lets hope the remainder Chans and Motos are going to be fast tracked.
Urgent plea to Amazon - please take off the numerous listings of bootleg Chans. If this set is always to succeed, consumers cant be confused by illegal wannabees.

Charlie Chan has long been a mystery hero of mine. This box set has four in the best Charlie Chan in a very box. Included from the collection is Charlie Chan In London 1934, Charlie Chan In Paris 1935, Charlie Chan In Egypt1935 and Charlie Chan in Shanghai 1935. Eran Trece, a only Spanish Language Charlie Chan film made 1931 is usually a bonus for this collection.
I bought some in the loose Chans that MGM released a few in years past. Films titles like Meeting at Midnight, Jade Mask, and Chinese Cat were good, though the masters transfers to DVD didnt seen clean enough copies.
My history with Charlie Chan began about thirty in years past. I remember seeing each of the Chan in late 1970s on WDCA channel 20 on sundays. They would run an marathon afternoon of entertainment which started having a Chan film, after that Blondie movie which are not only a DVD yet, and after that finally a Ma and Pa Kettle or even a Francis the Talking Mule or maybe a Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes.

One on the cultural icons from the 1930s, on the net and on screen, was Charlie Chan. As is recognized, Chans creator, Earl Derr Biggers, based the figure upon an authentic Hawaiian detective, Chang Apana. A look into Charlie Chans fictional biography reveals exactly how far his nimble steps took him in the American psyche. Most Americans dont realize that he or she is based on a genuine person: Chang Apana, a legendary Honolulu police, whose biography is likely to make up a big part on this book. Like Apana, Charlie Chan came of aging in colonial Hawaii, riven by endemic racial tension. As a child, he worked to be a houseboy to get a rich white family in Honolulu. As a detective, he traveled extensively from the islands, the American West, Asia, and Europe.
