A 20k CAD suite may not be what typical 3D printer users offer plus, if they actually do use this type of expensive tool, I d suspect they can have received or invested in a few adequate training by using it. You don t just own software that expensive and don t know how to utilize it.
Many universities have CATIA and solidworks and I believe dassault systeme offer student licenses for both texts if you have a email address contact information I believe. Loads of training vids for both online. CATIA is superior to solidworks.

If I m remembering right all Autodesk programs have free full versions for young students.
I love 123D as being a simple take action 3d program. Its too very easy to get lost in features for other 3d programs and spend more time learning how to work with it then actually creating those things you intend to make. I don t like however which the program is semi unstable for me personally and there is certainly no linux support

Actually, the fillet and trim tools don t work all of that much like AutoCAD. The program automatically identifies places where two curves intersect, so you may add fillets or trim/extend curves with less fuss.
